We live in uncertain economic times. We all worry about our country’s - and our state’s - deep budget deficits. We know that most of us can not afford to pay additional taxes to eliminate the debt. We wonder about what the future will hold.
With this backdrop of turmoil, I have made the well-considered decision to run for my third term as a Calvert County Commissioner. I reminded myself why I sought elected office in the first place: I had poured my heart and soul into this beautiful community I love. I wanted to help shape its future. What a privilege it has been to serve as a decision maker for
Today in Calvert, we enjoy a wonderful quality of daily living. Our schools are excellent. Our crime rate remains low. We are a caring and committed community where volunteering is a way of life.
I am proud of the distance we have come as a county during my years of service. We have a balanced county budget. Because of this sound fiscal management, Calvert has received a AAA bond rating, an exceptional achievement for a small government. The county’s residential growth rate is sustainable. Our commercial tax base is continuing to grow. Our educational funding formula has allowed full funding of our schools.
Proven leadership and a steady hand are essential to keep Calvert moving forward. As a government, we must hold the line on spending. Work remains to be done to streamline our zoning and permitting processes.
My sense of responsibility and duty to do my best, combined with my deep commitment to my beloved community, led to my choice to seek re-election. Plus…I hear from my constituents that my voice of reason is needed in the courthouse!
I hope that you, too, will Choose Susan, A Voice of Reason.
