Boy Scouts See Commissioners in Action

Commissioners,

Thank you for the warm welcome you extended to the Boy Scouts from Troop 903 (Huntingtown). Thank you , also, for stopping by to greet each scout. They really felt special.

They came away with a great impression of how County decisions are made. The most important thing they observed is the way discussion takes place. They saw that one person speaks at-a-time, so that all views can be heard. This is a tough practice to learn at thier age, but they saw how well things work if done this way. It was also helpful to see that they are not the only group which takes time to offer thanks and pray for guidance, and also remember our commitment to our community, state and nation through the Pledge of Allegiance.

It was very fortunate that they were present during your discussion and decision to support the indoor pool in Prince Frederick - something they actually identify with. They will definitely be "knowledgable" when the subject comes up at home and school.

Thank you for noticing that they stayed awake for the entire hearing... actually it was very lively. They particularly noticed (during the discussion of the "silo" in the pool drawing) that it is OK to speak freely and frankly - because it was done in a respectful way.

Thank you also for your kind words about the adult leaders. From the greeting you personally provided before the session, to the words of appreciation for their service at the end, you translated what is often a thankless job into a boost we needed for the week at Solomons.

Thank you for your hospitality, professional example and leadership. They will not forget what they saw, and for that, I'm grateful.
