Adopted master plans for Hallowing Point Park and Cove Point Park and funded the implementation of those plans plus the Dunkirk District Park master plan that was previously approved. DDP-Skatepark, playground, basketball court, picnic area, restrooms, beginnings of pathways and trails, re-lightning of Field 1, lighting of Fields 2, construction of new field, irrigation on Field 4, planning for outdoor pool, refurbish tennis courts. HPP-expanded and lit Field 2, re-light field 1, constructed new road leading to “Back 22”, construction of 4 tennis courts, lit Fields 11 and 12, constructed restroom at “Back 22”, lit “Back 22” parking lot. Installed irrigation on Fields 11 and 12, upgraded turf to bermuda on Fields 11 and 12, expanded maintenance facility CPP-Constructed 3 new ballfields and parking, constructed outdoor pool, constructed section of pathway, installed irrigation on Field 2 Establishment of a Therapeutic Recreation Program With the hiring of a TR Specialist approximately 6 years ago and the addition of an Assistant this past year Calvert has made a commitment to provide quality recreational programs to a population that was greatly underserved. During it’s 5th year of operation the TR Section served 344 clients in 60 programs, a 247% increase over the first year. Commitment to Swimming Construction of outdoor pool at CPP, planning for the construction of outdoor pool at DDP, commitment to construct and indoor facility, upgrades at Kings landing Pool including installation of water slides and remodeling of bathhouse, improvements to beach area at Breezy Point Park including restrooms and snack stand. Commitment to Improve and Expand Athletic Fields Besides the projects listed above in the district parks; hired a Maintenance Supervisor with education and experience in turf management, increased P&R operating budget for turf management. At BGE Field installed irrigation, lighting and a bermuda grass playing surface on the football/soccer field, expanded parking, construction of restroom scheduled for Spring 06. Assumed responsibility for maintenance of 22 fields at 11 school sites. Purchased 20 acres for Solomons Town Center Park (site plan is in process and will include 3-4 fields with associated support facilities), leased 20 acres adjacent to HPP (has had limited use the past two seasons, site plan is complete, construction will begin Spring 2006 on 5 new fields), contributed funding for upgrades at Kellam Field (re-grading, lights, restroom, snack stand, parking) upgraded entrance road and parking at Twin Shields, maintain and utilize two field areas at the Fairgrounds, instituted the use of fields at Kings Landing Park for soccer practice, utilizing an undeveloped area at Dunkirk Gateway for soccer and lacrosse practice. Completion of the Northeast Community Center With the completion of the facility in June of 2003 4 new rooms were added to the facility one of which is a mini-gym. Expansion of Recreation Programs The number of programs offered and the number of enrollments continue to grow steadily. Between program year 1996-97 and program year 2004-05 there was a 50% increase in the number of programs offered (1,243) and a 130% increase in the number of enrollments in those activities (33,702).
